Both individually and as a team, Kitchenscapes’ owners Lauren and Michael Ruehring bring years of professional and personal experience and a passion for design to Kitchenscapes.
Raised by a mother who was a landscape and interior designer and a father who was an airline pilot and builder, many of Lauren’s earliest memories are of days spent at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart and at kitchen/bath supply showrooms with her mother, working with clients on materials selection, and witnessing the design and construction process from demolition to completion.
After graduating from Goucher College, Lauren pursued a career as a marketing and communications executive in both the real estate settlement business and the fine art sales business.
Overseeing paralegal teams for Lawyer’s Title and First American Title Insurance companies, Lauren serviced the settlement needs of existing realtor clients and developed relationships with new realtors, builders and developers to grow the settlement business. In these roles, she was able to strengthen the company presence in the real estate community by being active in trade associations and working one on one to gain the business of larger builders.
As the Sales and Marketing lead for a prominent fine art business, Lauren was responsible for a 32 state territory and Canada, dealing with the needs of existing gallery clients and developing new gallery clients. She was also responsible for writing all of the promotional material for the artists who the company published and licensed, and served as the publicist for artist Kerry Hallam and artist Thomas McKnight.
Lauren has also worked as a full time, professional actor/print model and published author most notably appearing in Tyler Perry’s first feature film, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” and NBC’s hit series, “Heroes” (appearing as Lauren Leah Mitchell) and authoring “Michelangelo: His Genius in Art and Architecture”.
Michael is a business operations executive with nearly 25 years of experience in leadership, management, finance, logistics, and business systems.
After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, Michael served for over 10 years as a Naval Aviator. As a military officer, Michael developed a strong reputation with his teams as a progressive and adaptable leader with a passion for getting his hands dirty alongside his sailors. This leadership style has translated extremely well into the private sector.
After leaving the military with a service related disability, Michael advanced rapidly through roles of increasing responsibility with General Electric with a focus on global sourcing, risk management, and information systems. Subsequently recruited by Home Depot Supply to lead their Facilities Maintenance Operations Excellence group, Michael gained significant experience in the commercial and multi-family housing market with customers heavily focused on the construction and renovation of kitchen and bath spaces. Most recently, he has worked as a C-Level Operations and Logistics Executive in the Oil and Gas industry.
Michael is an accomplished rustic furniture artist and outdoor hardscape designer and builder known to a small clientele for his rugged Adirondack furniture, trellises, arbors, and lattice work.
Since their marriage in 1990, Michael and Lauren have purchased and sold 8 properties across the country, both primary residences and investment properties. They renovated each of the homes to varying degrees, always making their own choices and doing the work themselves, to a tremendously successful result. Their passion and hobby has always been improving homes and landscaping, and as such they are familiar with the challenges and rewards of building and renovating. Together, they have decades of personal, professional, and practical experience in vendor selection, home appliances, and the principles of design.
